Compared with traditional land cities, ocean cities always seem more charming. The charming reason is not only that the two characteristic types of cities have different scenery. Since ancient times, it is an indisputable fact that port cities have more wealth. Places with more wealth tend to attract people to work hard and pursue their dreams. But now, as China is about to build the world's largest port, the status of port city may be completely shuffled in the future, and Singapore may become the biggest loser.
According to domestic news, China has invested 70 billion yuan to build the world's largest port - Shanghai Yangshan port. After the completion of Shanghai Yangshan Port, Singapore will bear the brunt of the impact. Singapore's land area is relatively small, and the country itself is very dependent on shipping for economic development. Now that China has built the largest port, Shanghai will become Singapore's biggest rival in the future. However, compared with Singapore, Shanghai Yangshan Port has greater ambitions.
It can be seen that Yangshan port is not in Shanghai, but on Yangshan island in Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province. Reasonably speaking, the cargo throughput of the port itself is very large. Even if it cannot be guaranteed to be selected in the downtown area, the surrounding land cities close to Shanghai should also be selected. So why does Shanghai go the opposite way and choose to open up a new port on the island, mainly because Shanghai itself has a complete set of transit ideas.
Near the suburbs of Shanghai, it is very difficult to find a port site with large throughput. The Yangshan island of Zhoushan archipelago just has the water consumption to accommodate ocean going giant ships, which makes it a natural basis for building larger ports here. In addition to the good geographical and natural conditions, there is a very important reason why Shanghai chose to build a port here. Shanghai has a good economic radiation in the Yangtze River Delta.
Cities can use their own capabilities to develop with multiple cities. In addition, Shanghai can also use its own cooperation ability to engage in "water to water" transportation with multiple cities. In order to ensure that domestic goods are easier to export abroad, foreign goods are easier to enter China. Shanghai cooperates with surrounding ports and customs to jointly launch the combined boxing policy. The goods can be docked at Yangshan Port and surrounding ports for loading and unloading, and the goods can be directly delivered to other ports for loading and unloading.
This joint system ensures that Shanghai can accept more goods. It is equivalent to directly connecting many ports in the Yangtze River Delta with Yangshan Port, forming a complete regional port system. The key point for Shanghai to realize the "water to water" transportation system is that there are many linkage areas around the city, and the number of resources it can mobilize is amazing. In contrast, Singapore, a small country with few people, does not have such an advantage.
Although the Strait of Malacca gives Singapore a geographical advantage, goods from Asia, Europe and the United States must be transferred through Singapore. However, Shanghai Yangshan Port has the advantages of huge throughput, faster cargo shipping time, closer to the transportation and export place of the cargo market and so on. So that the goods exported to China and China's exports have a more convenient and fast choice. In the future, more import and export goods will choose to dock at Yangshan Port, rather than taking the Singapore port in the Strait of Malacca as the supply and cargo transportation and export point.
This is one of the reasons why Yangshan Port will put greater pressure on Singapore in the future, and then it is the key to further reduce its market share. However, in general, Singapore's shipping business and Yangshan port business are not opposite. At this stage, the connection between the two places is more about division of labor and cooperation.
The two places themselves face different market groups. In the future, the two places will continue to deepen ties and establish closer relations. If the two countries can give full play to their own advantages and connect the relationship between China shipping and Southeast Asian shipping, the importance of Asian shipping market will far exceed that of Europe and America in the future.
