Container forklift is a special forklift used for handling and loading containers in container terminals and yards.

There are two kinds: front container forklift truck with lifting door frame in front of the car body and side container forklift truck with lifting door frame on the side of the car body.

Both the top of the gantry can be used to lift and carry the container, and the cargo fork can be inserted into the bottom of the container fork groove to lift and carry the container.

It is mainly used for auxiliary operations such as stacking empty containers, and can also be used for container loading and unloading or short distance handling in comprehensive docks and yards with small container throughput (less than 30,000 TEU/year).

The advantages of using container forklifts in container terminals and freight yards are as follows: flexible mobility and wide operating range;

Compared with other container machinery, its equipment purchase cost is low;

Through the replacement of the fittings, can be used to load, unload and carry other goods, to achieve the effect of one machine multi-purpose.

Container forklifts also have some disadvantages: the commonly used frontal container forklifts have large transverse size, large required passageway width (about 14m), and fewer stacking layers, which makes the utilization of yard area and height low;

When full load, the front wheel pressure is high, which requires high bearing capacity of the wharf front and the road surface of the yard passage.

When walking, the vision is blocked by the container, so it is difficult to work on the container.

Compared with the container gantry crane, the operation efficiency of container forklift is low.

Therefore, it is not suitable for container terminals with large throughput. It is generally used for comprehensive terminals with small container throughput, or as auxiliary machinery for professional container terminals and storage yards.
