Introduction

SOCMA telescopic forklift is a new type of loading and unloading machine,which was equipped with fork and side shifter. The KION Group AG released its financial data for the first half of 2022 on July 28 in Frankfurt, Germany. In the first half of 2022, KION Group's order volume and revenue performance were good. The KION Group's EBIT fell significantly in the first half of the current financial year due to continued sharp increases in material, energy and logistics costs and ongoing supply chain disruptions. Moreover, another round of static management brought about by the new crown epidemic in Asia has made the situation even worse. The conflict in Ukraine also further exacerbated the situation in the second quarter of the current fiscal year. The two major business segments of the KION Group have all ceased to supply Russia and Belarus in the first quarter, including spare parts and related services.

“In order to proactively respond to the current challenges – first of all tight supplies and rising costs of materials, energy and logistics – and to strengthen the long-term resilience of our business, we have taken a number of substantive measures in both business segments.” Chief KION Group Chief Executive Officer Executive Officer Rob Smith noted: "These include strengthening the supplier network, dynamically adjusting prices, extending lease contracts to ensure our continued availability of industrial vehicles at customer sites, and enhancing the flexibility of the production process at our plants."

The KION Group’s order intake in the first half of 2022 increased by 13.1% year-on-year to EUR 6,655 million (previous year: EUR 5,882 million), showing the still strong growth momentum of the intralogistics industry (internet trade, urbanization, demographic changes and Customer requirements for ever-increasing delivery speed). The positive impact of exchange rates contributed to an increase of EUR 179.2 million in the total order book of the KION Group. The order book continued to grow in the second quarter, reaching a value of EUR 7,941 million at the end of June (end 2021: EUR 6,658 million). In addition to a large number of new orders, significantly longer delivery times in the industrial vehicle and service segments were also the main reasons for this growth.

Group consolidated revenue achieved EUR 5,537 million, an increase of 11.4% compared to the first half of 2021 (EUR 4,968 million). As in the previous quarter, the increase in revenue was mainly driven by the order volume accumulated in the previous year and the positive development of the service business. Overall, the proportion of the service business in the Group's comprehensive income increased from the previous year, reaching 40.5% (previous year's proportion: 40%). The positive impact of exchange rates resulted in an increase of EUR 190.7 million in Group consolidated income.

Adjusted EBIT fell to EUR 311.7 million (previous year: EUR 462.2 million). The adjusted EBIT margin also fell to 5.6% (previous year: 9.3%). Consolidated net income of EUR 159.8 million was significantly lower than the previous year's level (EUR 291.2 million), of which the impact of special factors (after tax) due to the Russian business totaled around EUR 30 million, which was recognized in the first quarter of the current fiscal year.

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic have seriously affected the world economic situation during the reporting period. Renewed conflict-induced surges in raw material and energy prices, sharp rises in inflation, disruptions in global supply chains and static management in Asia due to the Covid-19 pandemic have significantly dampened global growth. The World Bank has revised its forecast for global economic growth this year, downgrading it to 2.9 percent (up from 5.7 percent last year).

According to KION Group estimates, the global material handling market will see flat growth in the first half of 2022, and the demand for industrial vehicles in the sales markets where KION Group is located is still higher than the previous year. The KION Group estimates that momentum slowed in all sales regions in the second quarter due to macroeconomic uncertainty and severe supply constraints. Compared with the same period of the previous year, the order volume in Europe, the Middle East and Africa increased slightly in the first half of this year; the market in the Americas increased significantly according to the statistics of KION Group; the current data shows that the order volume in the Asia-Pacific region failed to reach the level of the same period of the previous year. The reason for this is mainly due to the measures taken by Asia to combat the epidemic.

The project business of Supply Chain Solutions was also affected by delays on the supplier side. The KION Group believes that the global supply chain solutions market continued to grow during the reporting period, with EMEA and the Americas again contributing to maintaining high market levels.

The KION Group believes that the medium and long-term growth momentum of the two business segments remains unchanged.

Outlook

On April 4, 2022, the Executive Board of the KION Group AG decided to withdraw the forecast for the fiscal year 2022 in the 2021 financial report due to the continuing high uncertainty in the procurement market. Due to the conflict in Ukraine and the static management caused by the new crown epidemic, especially in the Asian region, the already persistent and serious uncertainties in the procurement market have been greatly exacerbated.

While the KION Group believes that the fundamental drivers of the intralogistics technology industry remain unchanged, considerable uncertainty remains when assessing the Group's business performance for the remainder of the financial year. Continued unfavorable external conditions do not allow for reliable forecasts of key metrics for fiscal 2022. The consequences of the conflict in Ukraine and the looming energy crisis, and their impact on sales and purchasing markets, cannot be reliably estimated at this time. Continued supply chain disruptions and rising material, energy and logistics costs will continue to negatively impact adjusted EBIT for both business segments, affecting the KION Group's overall KPIs and freedom of Cash flow, as a result, 2022 KPIs are expected to be lower than 2021.

The KION Group plans to develop new forecast targets for the remainder of the year.
